Issue #2
Welcome to a new, regular feature of Good and Beautiful Things.
(Almost) every Wednesday I’ll share art that I’ve made, along with a limited number of sentences to go with it. What will happen when I can’t depend on words to convey the message/tell the story?
I’m curious to find out.
One evening as I road my bike I noticed a sign that read, “Path Narrows”.
The words lingered with me after my ride.
What’s next on my path as my kids continue to leave the nest (three out of four will be gone by the end of this month).
Do I imagine a path that expands with possibilities and new adventures ahead or am I hurtling toward a narrowed path defined by loss and limitations?
Lord, help me steer toward the wider, more generous path.
When I took this photo on my bike ride, the sign was behind me.
But in my rendering, I think the perspective is unclear. Is the figure going toward the narrow path or away from it?
Which direction are you headed? Maybe for you, the narrow path represents a positive direction in your life?
I’d love to hear about it.

Love this piece! And I can relate to the impending empty nest. I still have a 10th grader, so a few more years, but I am already feeling it!
I love the "look again" nature of this post! When I first saw your artistic rendering, I assumed the character was heading toward the narrowing path and was delighted by the invitation to look again and consider the narrowed path in the rearview. The narrowing is always gonna be one direction or another along this journey, isn't it!?! Your post immediately brought to my mind the "spacious place" of Psalm 31:7-8, and I'm still thinking on that.....
Always, my thanks for sharing your work here!!
