Welcome to Good and Beautiful Things and its sister newsletter, Creative Possibilities!
How are the two newsletters different?
The aim of Good and Beautiful Things is to give each of us a gentle push toward creativity, curiosity, and courage in our daily lives. Drawing from personal stories and experience, I try to share something each week that is honest but with a thread of hope.
Here are a few examples of posts that seem to resonate with readers:
A Message to My Nervous System
Issue #57/Good and Beautiful Things I never really expected to get life advice from Loki, the god of mischief, or even the actor who plays Loki in the Marvel movies. I turned on the podcast interview with actor Tom Hiddleston about a week ago not because I’m a Loki fan (my kids are) but because I find interviews with Hiddleston to be thoughtful and intel…
That Time I Tried to Be Ann Patchett

The best compliment that someone once said about our house was this:
“When I’m at your house I feel like making something.”
That’s what I hope to inspire with the posts in this section: that you’ll feel inspired to go make something!
Here are a few examples of Creative Possibilities posts:
-Ish
Creative Possibilities/Issue #16 I had no idea what was going to happen to my creative life (and my life-life) the day my kids brought home papers from their art class over fifteen years ago. “Look, mommy we made ‘Ish’ drawings!” ”Ish drawings?” I asked. Most likely I was busy feeding their baby brother or figuring out dinner or falling asleep on the couch.
To Play, To Savor, To Learn

A Year of Making Things
Welcome to the 60th issue of Good and Beautiful Things! My original plan was to take a writing break for a few weeks but over the past seven days I’ve been trapped in a House of Covid and somehow I’m the last one still standing. With extra time on my hands I’ve been taking a look back at my year.
Becoming a Slightly Mad Artist
Creative Possibilities/Issue #11 Creative Possibilities is a section of Good and Beautiful Things, dedicated to sharing parts of my creative journey in order to spur on your own.
Kicking Pressure to the Curb
