I too have dropped books in the bath. 😬 also I watched All the Light We Cannot See and we totally compelled. I loved the book and overall appreciated the cinematic version. I have thoughts but I don’t want to give spoilers to any readers who haven’t seen it.

Thank you for confessing that you have also dropped books in the bath, Sarah!

I can be pretty critical about book to movie adaptations so that's why it was so helpful that I hadn't read All the Light You Cannot See for a good while before watching it. I thought a four-part series was a nice structure for the adaptation. I do wish characters that are supposed to be from France would speak with French accents. Sigh. I watched an adaptation of War and Peace recently and everyone had British accents, which is-confusing!

I’m the same with all the inside lights and the blinds on! Gotta have as much light as possible as early as possible :)

Right there with you. I know a few people who like to keep their house lit like a cave in the middle of the day with blackout curtains and..I struggle.

First of all…bahahaha “running away”!

I am a complete fan of On Being and love fellow Canadian, Kate Bowler.

I’m happy to see your five things were more than five things:)

Our running away was foiled! We were almost to our Airbnb when we got a message that the airbnb had no power. Host was great and full refund..but no escape.

I'd love to visit Canada some day!

Thanks Kimberly! I started the post as an idea that seemed simple to pull together before leaving for the weekend but then ended up enjoying myself quite a bit.

Great list of beautiful things!

1—I love the moody fog of fall and winter, but I also welcome the occasional bright blue days we get here in Oregon.

2—I'm more podcasts than audiobooks, but I love both. Everything Sad is Untrue and All My Knotted Up Life were great listens; I love when authors narrate their own books. Surrender by Bono was surprising...long and a lot of music industry stuff, but very good and well produced.

3—I'm mostly non-fiction. I love to underline and write in the margins, but I use book darts instead of dog-ears. Dog-earring crosses a line ; )

4—yes to sketchbooks in church for small kids! I use an art journal (loosely termed) in a similar way. My sketching is embarrassing. But we always used nature journals on our walks when the kids were little. Those are treasures.

5—not a big tv/movie person but my daughter told me about All the Light and I look forward to seeing it.

(1) It's good to be able to love the foggy days and the bright days, much more potential for mood lifting than my limited view! (2) Surrender is a fantastic audiobook. I haven't finished it, but I dip into it when I'm in the mood. A friend just recommended the audio of A Swim in the Pond in the Rain by George Saunders so that's my next audiobook. (3) My kids are also offended by my dog-eared pages. (4) We did nature journaling when my kids were younger, too.

I’m going to check out that audiobook too! Ready for a new one, and I haven’t read any George Saunders yet but he’s been on my list. I forgot to say--I may not dog-ear books but coffee rings and drips are my signature.

1. I'm not a fan of the moody fog of Oregon fall and winter, but after a lifetime spent in and out of it I seem to have mostly made peace with it.

2. All My Knotted Up Life was one of my favorite listens this year and I enjoyed Bono's book that way too. I've seen all the love for Everything Sad is Untrue but for some reason I haven't been able to get traction. I liked A Swim in the Pond on audio very much.

3. Book darts > dog ears!!! but mostly I say so in the context of library books.

Oh good, according to number 3 dog ears are slightly less reprehensible in personally owned books! I sense a little mercy there.

you can drip salsa, smudge chocolate, dog ear your own books as much as you want. and using that measure, I'll know which ones I probably want to check out for myself......From the library.

Bigger Speed Bumps Please. I should have skipped the section about chocolate and salsa and dog eared books. Oh. My. Goodness.

But this is an excellent list of Five Things. I do approve of your math.

You're going to have to take the good with the bad, my friend. Just don't borrow any books from me.

You’re a Florida-born, now I get it why you prefer the summer over the winter, I can do relate!!!

Lovely seeing your sketches and I really love the colours of the one with the fields and red leaves.
